This tour starts of with a steady 20,km down hill ride through two small local villages and down
towards two of the golf courses close to the airport.
We then head inland again with stunning views over looking the airport and heading inland
along the country roads. Still climbing as we go nothing to strenioues just nice and easy.
Along this road is a small tapas bar hidden away a great place for a coffee and a snack.
Now feeling refreshed we set of again heading across land and
still climbing but you do not seem to be aware of it. Onwards for a few more km until we reach
the main road.
Now comes the time for us to return to base. Turning left we start a nice 6km incline.
This is a part of the tour where you are well and truly in the Canarian countryside fields
surrounding you on both sides, old stone water trough's that go from field to field km after km.
It's amazing to
to see the caves that have been carved out of the volcanic rock.
They are still used by many of the local farmers for storage, and in the summer they use
them for the farm workers to sleep in during the summer months.
After climbing out of this beautiful part of the country side we then move on toward another
small village where the local church in the center of the town is well worth a visit.
From here on its just 7km across country where we return to our base in San Miguel.
Distance 60,km Time Taken.4 hrs. Degree of Difficulty Easy to medium.

Setting of from the fishing village Las Galletas we headed inland cutting through several small
holiday complexes cutting out the main roads until we come out on the back roads over looking
the east coast as you can see from the profile it rises to just 200 meters
above sea level before we drop down and head across inland on the country roads still keeping
the coast on our right.
Finally reaching one of the small towns along the way we drop down to the coast of
El Medano the home of the world wind championships championships in Jan/Feb so it can be a little windy
along this road sometimes great if the wind is behind you.
With the coast now on our left hand side you go for 7.km up an down. Then we start a
superb climb passing the airport runway and then carrying on up to the view point at 290. meters.
From here on we drop down and head back toward Las Galletas.
A great tour for every one to enjoy seeing varied parts of the coast and countryside.
Distance 52,km Time Taken.3-30 hrs. Degree of Difficulty Easy.
The Great Mount Teide Challenge.
For me this is one of the greatest challenges here in Tenerife.
Setting of from sea level at the most southern part of the coast. From this point on it's
one way only and that is up for the next 40km until you reach El Retamar at 2150 Meters above sea level.
From the starting point it is very much a case of finding a pace that everyone is happy with and
staying with it. As you are climbing you are able to look back down towards the coast and see why
we call it the great Mount Teide challenge.
After reaching El Retamar you then drop down 4km into the Plato that forms the base
of the mountain. No you have not finished there you must Then carrying on uphill for the final
11km finishing at the cable cable 2350 Meters above sea level.
Actual riding time to reach the
cable car is normally 4
to 4-1/2 hours. There we have something to eat and rest for a while before setting off on the way back.
One of the things to remember is that 4km drop into the base has to be climbed back out again.
After that its downhill all the way depending on the route you take back down after returning to
Vilaflor there are three routes of 10km-14km or 17km we normally choose the quickest route the 10km.
that brings you out to the mid range mountain road and then down back to the coastal finishing point.
Remember that this is not a ride you should think of doing unless you have a very good level of
fitness. Depending on the time of the year check on the web cam to see what the weather is like
before setting of as the weather can change very quickly in the winter months so take apropriate
clothing. Most important remember to take a camera.
I normal take a tour up to Mount Teide every week. Please Contact us for times
and dates.
Total distance 104km.
Time taken 6-30m.
Degree of dificulty. Maximum Not for the faint hearted.
SAN MIGUEL PORIS SAN MIGUEL

The route with a kick in the middle. I have taken many people on this ride and they all find it incredible.
Setting of you travel through the villages one after another, after another, with very little trafic to contend with.
The road varies a little for the first 10 km until you come out into the countryside. With stunning views along the way.
Be aware there are a few climbs that can catch you out on the way. Nothing to great to worry about as long as you
take your time. After reaching half way, you drop down to the coast line at Poris. 10km one of the fastest down hill
runs you can go on in the south east of the Island having clear views of the road for a good distance and with almost
no traffic to worry about makes it fun. Sadly the fun ends when you reach the village and then you have the
bit in the middle to contend with, as my wife says you got down there now get back up. This is a 10km climb
going through the windmills up over and around the winding roads until you reach km 8 then it rises
for the last 2km. Great news after doing the last little bit its coffee time.
the break is a welcome one and from here on in it's the same road all the way back. I find this is a ride that
every one always talks about for a long time afterwards.
Total distance 71km.
Time taken 4-00 hr.

SAN MIGUEL-MOUNT TIEDE ARAFO SAN MIGUEL
WWW.CYCLINGTENERIFE.COM
This is one of the most picturesque roots on the island. Setting of from our
base in San Miguel and climbing directly up to the mountain through the national park passing over
Mount Tiede and then carrying on to the observatory.
Reaching
an altitude of 2350 meters There we started the magnificent descent down to Arafo.
Passing through the forest on the other side of the Island. Dropping
down from 2350 meters to 200 meter above sea level covering over 48 kilometres of down hill, and thats along way
in miles or kilometers. Then climbing up and through Arafo we set on the route for home a further
60km
this is not to dificult infact it's a great route back climbing up to
650 m and droping down to 300m
All in all a great days riding going from one side of the Island to the other
and back. Definitely a trip to remember and defiantly a full days riding.

212km AROUND THE ISLAND.
Every year normally in the month of May we have our annual ride around the Island.
It is one of those days you get prepared for and then when it arrives you think to yourself I must be mad, but then again
the others are doing it so they also must be mad. Setting of at 8 o-clock in the morning and heading up towards the
west coast which in itself can prove a little trying. Always staying in the group, this way we all help one another
up the climbs. After reaching Santiago Del Tiede every one was feeling good only 1 puncture, and a slipped of chain,
so not a great delay. Knowing that the next 30km was all downhill it was time for a coffee and eat a little.
Feeling refreshed we set of, heading towards Icod de Los Vinos, the roads were clear and with fantastic views it was a
pleasure coming down. Carrying on through to Puerto Del a Cruz and towards La laguna still in a group and feeling ok,
we decided to stop for lunch. Heading towards Taco and then on to Gúimar where you go through a variety of villages,
farming comunity's,and the most picturest countryside. Carrying on to Arico and then through to Granadilla and then
finally finishing in the village square of San Miguel some 9h 30min's latter. An amazing ride organized to a plan and
carried out to the plan ensuring we all arrived back safe and sound. This ride is only possible on a Sunday believe me.
This is the furthest I have ever ridden in a day so I felt a great sense of achievement. After telling my wife all
about the ride over dinner I sat down and fell straight to sleep I wonder why.
Total distance 212km.
Time taken 9-5 hrs.
Degree of difficulty.Maximum.
